And now for some sobering news, from our friends/enemies at the US News and World Report:

Some people who grew up with Walt Disney actually continue to live in Walt Disney Land:

  • I think Cindy is more perfect because she already serves as mother, provider, and nurturer of the highest order. She is part Eleanore Roosevelt, part Princess Diana, and part Mother Teresa. Cindy has and will continue , with John's help and blessing, to keep our country as the shining city not only on the hill but on the mountain.

  • Cindy McCain's vision is exciting, promising, and compelling. Plans to involve other caring volunteer spirits in action have unlimited potential to achieve the goals that Cindy has identified. American is more than its government; America is its people. Real people reaching out to help others by giving of themselves will enrich the lives of the giver and the people in need at home or in poverty-stricken countries. Cindy;s words arenot just empty, wishful hopes or plans- her words outline a vision that will become a reality when she becomes first lady. It is apparent that Cindy has contemplated her role and has chosen one in which she has already demonstrated heart-touching action on a personal level.

Its always nice to read well-written letters, but I urge you, readers, really to think about the things you say before you say them. Starting today, when I read something too outrageous, I'm gonna publish it on the net with a time stamp. And if we meet later, I'll try to remember to ask you about it ;) I won't make any response to these letters, but I am concerned about the prominence of these sorts of viewpoints.

(Hopefully) without revealing any politics to my Readers, I'll admit that I could relate to the next letter, concering the "plight of average working person/family." You think working a cash register is a drag? Of course it is! But there are lessons to be learned. And the people working and shopping around ME are really not doing too well.
  • I was struck by McCain's comment "Times in America are difficult today. Anyone who looks at the television or glances at a newspapers business sections knows that." I don't think that the average person needs to glance at their TV or newspaper to know that the times in American are difficult today. The average American sees the "For Sale" signs everywhere. The average American knows many people who are losing their homes to foreclosure. The average American has seen their meager savings dwindle to nothing. As an undecided voter, this article has convinced me that the McCains are not in touch with the average American and has definitely influenced my vote.
